Leadership at Hazel Dell

The leadership structure at Hazel Dell is drawn directly from the Word of God. In the Bible, we find references to the earliest congregations of Christians installing elders and deacons to serve the local congregation. These two groups of men are not a council or governing body, but function as God's servant leaders, fulfilling specific areas of ministry within the congregation as a whole.

Our elders are the "shepherds" or "overseers" of the church at Hazel Dell, and serve to direct the form and function of our worship services, spiritual growth and ministries, ensuring that all activities are conducted within the boundaries of Scripture. Scroll down to meet our elders.

The deacons at Hazel Dell are servant leaders like the elders, but are responsible for a specific area of ministry, such as benevolence, youth, building & grounds, administration and others. Scroll down to meet our deacons.

Elders

Joel Davis

Joel was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He and his wife Carol came to Hazel Dell after serving the Lord in Kodiak, Alaska. For the last eight years Joel has served as an Elder, and also serves as our Associate Minister. Joel and Carol have raised three children and reside in the Battle Ground area. Joel enjoys reading which is an asset as an education administrator at Columbia Christian School.

Tim Martin

Tim was raised on a farm near Farwell, Texas. He met his wife, Sue, while attending college and they were married in 1971. Tim and Sue have raised 3 sons. Tim has served as a deacon with a congregation in Oregon and here at Hazel Dell, and he became an elder here at Hazel Dell in 2005. Tim is a computer specialist for Bonneville Power and enjoys reading, wood work, and photography.

Jay Dodson

Jay was born in Portland, Oregon. Jay and Ellen Dodson have two sons and live in the Salmon Creek area of Clark County. Jay enjoys golfing, skiing and woodworking to recharge. He is an owner/superintendent of an industrial insulation company.

Gary Rose

Gary was born in North Bend Oregon and was baptized in the Church of Christ in Eugene in 1974. He served as a Deacon for the Horseheads, New York congregation from 1996-98 before returning to the Northwest and joining the Hazel Dell body. Gary serves with his wife, Becky.

Jeff Settles

Jeff grew up and attended school in the Vancouver area, and has been a member of the church at Hazel Dell since it was planted in 1980. He spent eight years in the military before settling back down in Vancouver. He is married and has four chilren. He worked as a volunteer youth director for several years here at Hazel Dell. When not working or doing things at the church Jeff enjoys golfing, camping and reading.
